EditraPortable

Postby amal on Wed Jul 07, 2010 7:09 pm

I have made a portable version of Editra v05.7.2 and created a PortableApps version 2.0 installer. The installer downloads the installation file from editra.org and extract it to the proper directory. It also creates .editra and plugins directories and would preserve them when upgrading to a new version.

I used the new PortableApps format v2, the v2 launcher creator and the v2 installer creator for this.

I originally requested an enhancement request here:

Please give it a try and report any issues.

Get the file from here:

With Cody's permission, I would like to put this on http://PortableApps.com as well

Cheers,

Hi,

If you could update that issue in the tracker and provide the info/code how you made the installer I could integrate it into part of the official build ;)

Hi Cody,

Sorry for late response, but here it goes.

I basically followed the PortableApps v2 format and guidelines to create a launcher and installer.

The directory structure is as follows:

Editra is basically portable, so I did not need to figure out what registry entry it accesses. As long as I create a .editra folder it will not use registry. At least that's what I thought.

There are a couple of .ini files that guide the PortableApp launcher creator and installer creator to do create a portable launcher and an installer. The installer downloads the version on the web and unpacks it to EditraPortable\App\Editra where there is a .editra folder already.

I wrote very minimal NSIS code to be able to unpack version on the web. Everything is included once you run the installer and install the application.

You must be familiar with NSIS, I think it would be easier for you to create a launcher from scratch. I have seen some PortableApps that start from NSIS code and do not bother with the launcher generator. I went the easier route.

Let me know if I can help with anything in this or any other matter.

Cheers,

Thanks,

I will try to review and add a portable windows build to the distro using this info sometime in the next couple releases.
